The Parent Company
The Parent Company is a well established and leading provider of first aid training for parents and carers. They have a friendly team of experienced Paediatric nurses who will come to your home during the day, evening or weekend and teach groups of up to 6 people.
As with most first aid classes, they teach the practical skills needed to respond to medical accidents and emergencies. However they also aim to build parents and carers belief in their own abilities, and empower them to respond confidently in an emergency.
Classes cover what do if a baby or child is choking, not breathing or unconscious, first responder actions for common accidents and injuries, recognizing high risk signs of illness and assessing the injured or ill child.
Easy-to-read wall charts are provided to support the classes and a certificate of attendance will be issued after the class.

Course review by Sally Harrison, Director, Best Bear I recently attended one of these classes. After two hours of instruction which included practical and hands-on experience with dollies, we were encouraged to practice again and again. By the end of the session we all felt very confident that we would be able to cope if something went wrong. We took away useful and clear notes to remind us about everything we had covered during the training session. I would definitely recommend the course to others.

R.E.D.I. Training told Best Bear: We offer two standardised training sessions for parents. The first is EMERGENCY CARE which is the Basic Life Support training (CPR). This includes the care of an unconscious baby or child, mouth-to-mouth, chest compressions, choking and the recovery position. The second session is ACCIDENTS & ILLNESSES (First Aid Training) which covers how to treat common illnesses and accidents with easy-to-use assessment methods. This session covers a huge range of illnesses and injuries including meningitis, convulsions, fever, bleeding, drowning, head injury, poisoning, asthma, allergies and burns. We can come to your home at a time that causes least disruption to you and your family. The trainer will bring manikins, one baby and one child, so everyone will have a chance to practice on each manikin to demonstrate competence in BLS. Each teaching session lasts 2 hours with 6 learners to one trainer and costs £300 (£50 per person in a group). We provide handouts and certificates of attendance for each learner. We also offer do open sessions that you can come to, the next dates are: 10 & 17 March at 10 – 12 pm in SW15 or 18 March & 15 April at 1930 - 2130 pm in SW6. The R.E.D.I. team is made up of nurses and doctors currently working in A&E or ITU in the NHS, and are Advanced Life Support and/or Advanced Paediatric Life Support instructors. All our teachings are based on the Resuscitation Council (UK) recommendations and algorithms updated in December 2005.
