Workplace Nurseries

Some enlightened employers (although only 5% of them) have created nursery facilities for their staff. The nurseries are usually in the same building as the office, but may be purpose-built a short distance away. Very often, the nursery places are subsidised by the employer. The clear advantages are that you can be close to your baby whilst working, can visit and breastfeed during breaks, and do not have to travel further afield to drop off and pick up.

Workplace nurseries have to meet the standards of any day nursery; the only difference is their location.

If the existing staff do not take up all the available places at their workplace nurseries, these places may be offered to local children, so it is worth finding out if there are any near you. Don't build up your hopes that you would get the staff concession though!
