Jonny Duddle is freelance illustrator and concept artist, producing work for Sony, Warner Brothers, Vista and Universal companies. His debut picture book was inspired by his time working as a concept artist on the Pirates of the Caribbean computer game. Jonny also finds time to lecture in Animation and VFX at Staffordshire University. He lives with his wife Jane and young family in Buxton, England.

Wonderfully illustrated book, a style of picture that has both depth and hidden extras to be spotted later. The story begins in the classic pirate stronghold of Port Royal - where the motley crew of Captain Purple Beard is enticed to go treasure hunting by a sea shanty sung by a wandering (slightly crazy) man. For the braver parent reading aloud this song gives ample chance to show off your best pirate voice. The book has a surprise ending (as long as you're 5) and, actually, a genuinely hidden side to the story - which I had to be told by my sharp eyed son. A picture book to be savoured and reread numerous times, and poured over with a torch when you've been told to 'go to sleep' for the third time.
